Recess is over, time for a reset …
This Journey To Less has been, honestly, arduous and not a lot of fun. Progress has been made, yes. Am I going to achieve my goal of 150 pounds by June 4th (just 10 short days from now)? No. If I had stayed on track, could I have made it. Yes ... (groan). So close, and yet so far.
Just a quick recap. I started this journey officially on December 28th and today is May 25th. Beginning weight … 174 pounds. Current weight is as of this morning, 158 pounds. Weight as of last week? 155 pounds. That’s right, I’ve gained weight in the last week. Is some of it water and other, more solid accumulation ? … probably. Is it muscle? Definitely not. I’ve been hovering around this 156-pound mark for a full month. But, as sometimes happens, life got in the way of further progress.
Some of this past month’s recess has been for celebrations like weddings, holidays, birthdays. All good things that come with opportunities to celebrate with food. Some of this past month’s recess has been not-so-good.
My husband’s health took a turn for the worse when he was hospitalized again (3rd time in 6 months) with a chronic condition that the medical professionals can’t seem to resolve. While caring for him, I made the classic mistake of stopping my own self-care. Even though my daughter was of enormous help, I still failed to take time to exercise and eat right often enough. Thankfully, he’s feeling better and we’ve hired a Health and Wellness Coordinator to assist with getting him back onto a healthy track. It’s a lot and I’m grateful for the professional help!
Last week, we had a brush fire (see blog with video), and I didn’t take time for my own self-care. We are fine. The house is fine. The air ... the air frankly still kind of has me wheezing ... but the air is almost fine. My family is fine. Over the weekend I enjoyed attending the wedding of a long-time family friend and that was fine.
I’m not sure why I’m complaining. I think it’s just that I had really hoped to achieve the goal of 150 by 6/4. I had hoped that this little journey would be an inspiration for others to start their own journey. I’m not sure at this point that I’ve made a difference. I hope I have.
My own journey will continue. Is it going to be arduous? Probably. Will it be fun? Probably not. I’m going to work on my mindset and try to recognize how far I’ve come. Like any marathoner will tell you, that 20-mile mark is the true test. That’s where I am. 20 miles (pounds) down and a few more very, very, very long miles (pounds) to go. Time to buckle down, Priscilla. You can do it. .... I think I can, I think I can, I think I can ….
