What’s In a Number?

Sometimes it seems like we’re surrounded by numbers.  Some of them are important, and some … well … not so much.  Age, Weight, Bank Balance, Income.  The list goes on and on.

I have a big, very personal struggle with one of my numbers. My Weight!  In my 30s, I weighed 135 pounds.  By my 40s, I had reached the 140-pound range.  By my 50s, I was in the 150+ pound range.  You see the trend here?

Decade by decade, my weight number has crept up to the point that now – you guessed it – I’m in my 70s, and my weight is 175, and my knees are starting to hurt.  I’ve been trying for something like 5 years to get my weight back down to a healthy number.  And for 5+ years, I’ve been failing miserably.

I know intellectually what to do.  Exercise regularly and eat right.  How hard can that be?  Well, for me anyway, really frustrating, a bit depressing and truly hard. Knowing something and doing something are very, very different.

So, I’m asking for help.  I’m announcing right here to the “Herself by Morton” community that I have set a goal of losing 20+ pounds by our 2026 Day Of Wellness on June 4th.  Now I have two numbers to aim for.  The first is the date, 6/4/26.  The second is my healthier weight target of 155 or less.

How can you help?  Please post me your successes and failures when it comes to getting to a healthy weight.  I’ll post what I’m doing and let you know how it’s working, or not.  Join me on my journey to better wellness. Or at the very least, wish me luck!

More to come on my journey to less.
